Bada OS:) Its Really Badaaa OS !!!

Samsung Bada 2.0 to feature Multitasking, HTML5 !!

Samsung's Bada platform, though new, already has five amazing devices under its hood. Samsung Wave S8500 with super AMOLED sold like hot cakes, then went out of stock, and is now back again, but only at select places. A Samsung dedicated blog, SamsungHub,* was tipped off with two slides related to Bada OS 2.0 update with upcoming features mentioned. Though considered as a nascent mobile OS for feature-rich mobile phones, the Bada OS will bring number of smartphone-like features.

Samsung Bada OS was launched last year in November and now, almost a year later, it will be aggressively stepping into next major version. Wave phone family sports Bada OS 1.2 version and lags when it comes to a number of Apps offered in Samsung App Store. Of course there are several essential current-generation features missing in the Bada OS. To bridge that gap, Samsung would be announcing Bada OS 2.0 and Software Development Kit anytime soon.

Following are the features that seem to be promised with Bada OS 2.0 update:

Better UX and UI Framework

  • Smarter Homescreen
  • Layout Management
  • UI Personalization (Themes?)
  • Animation effect

Multitasking

  • Background Launch
  • Multi-application execution

Web-centric Application Framework

  • HTML5
  • WAC Compatibility
  • Web App framework
  • Hybrid Web Programming
  • FlashLite 4

Service-Oriented Extension

  • Third Party SNS integration
  • Lifelogging
  • Text-To-Speech
  • Speech recognition
  • Push Notification
  • Near-Field Communication

Open Standards

  • Open AL, Standard C/C++

Security

  • Secure I/O and DRM

All new SDK

  • Linux and Mac Support
  • Faster Simulator
  • Profiler
  • Emulator
  • Code analyzer
  • performance analyzer

After looking at the list of new features promised with Bada OS 2.0 update, the platform will nearly stand next to the current generation mobile platforms like - Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry OS. Not much information apart from the slides mentioning Bada OS 2.0 features were revealed.

Looking at the amazing Bada OS 2.0 features, I believe we can expect Samsung to show it off at CES 2011 scheduled next month or at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in February. Currently we have smartphones ranging with 3.8-inch to 4.3-inch screen sizes, so we can expect to see some 4-inch Bada OS 2.0 models in the coming year.

The actual performance of the Bada OS can be talked about only when we have a Bada OS 2.0 running phone in our hands.
